Spectacular victim blaming from The Globe and Mail

Kudos to the Globe and Mail for their victim-blaming in their reporting of more sexual assaults in Toronto this weekend (Toronto police probe alleged sex assaults in city parks, Oct 1 2012):

  • alleged sex assualts”,
  • “A woman there said she had been approached”
  • She said she was in the popular west-end park”
  • “He is alleged to have tried to strike up a conversation”

As pointed out on Twitter no suspect has been named and the use of “alleged” directly undermines the statements and experiences of the victim. This language is dangerous and irresponsible and shows to me that the Globe and Mail has zero respect for women.

I’m so fucking tired of not being able to trust Canadian media to report fairly and honestly.
